Our Story

Ian Parry Scholarship Mission Statement: To promote and preserve ethical photojournalism by offering support to emerging photographers. The Ian Parry Scholarship has been supporting young emerging talent for more than 30 years. The Scholarship's namesake, Ian Parry, died doing what he was so passionate about and dedicated to - documenting world events. Ian was covering the Romanian revolution in 1989 for the Sunday Times when the aircraft he was traveling back to London in was shot down. He was just 24 years old. I launched the scholarship in Ian’s memory, determined to create something positive from such a tragic death and to offer support and encouragement to young emerging photojournalists who aspire to follow Ian’s passion. In our 30-year history, we have helped hundreds of young aspiring talent by holding an annual competition awarding financial assistance and expertise to assist the finalists at the very beginning of their careers. Many recipients have become internationally recognised and renowned photojournalists who have documented important issues on assignment for the world's finest news organisations.
